Thomas, the Cat in the Tricorn Hat, has been a volunteer at Meadow Garden for 8 years. His duties include guiding visitors to the historic house, helping in The Gift Shop at Meadow Garden, participating in the Children’s Program, and other duties as assigned. But Thomas can’t do it all. He needs your help!
For more than 120 years, volunteers have brought the story of American Independence to life at Meadow Garden. Our volunteers are a valuable resource. By giving time and talents, volunteers make an important contribution to the historic home of George Walton, by preserving America’s irreplaceable heritage, celebrating the contributions of all patriots, and educating and inspiring future generations.
Volunteers play many roles in the operations of Meadow Garden as they welcome visitors, assist in the gift shop, work with children’s activities, conduct tours, and help with special events. We invite you to join this group of committed individuals passionate about history, education, and preservation.
Meadow Garden will hold a full day of training for volunteers on Saturday, October 12 from 10:00 until 2:00. Volunteers will learn how to share the story of George Walton, one of the youngest signers of the Declaration of Independence, and his family. We will also share information about this uniquely historic structure, the history of its preservation by inspiring Georgia Daughters, and future projects in the historic house.
No matter what you like to do, there is a way for you to volunteer at Meadow Garden. This training will give you all the tools you need to find the perfect place for you in our historic house museum. Whether you live far away or right here in Augusta, there are things that you can do that fit your schedule and talents. If you cannot attend on this training date, contact us to set up individual or small group training that will work for you or your group.
